Frequency coverage

FM Broadcast band "F0" - 88 to 108 MHz (receive only, PTT = short beep)
VHF High "F1" - 136 to 174 MHz (covers 2m Ham and VHF Marine for example)
UHF1 "F2" - 350 to 390 MHz
UHF2 "F3" - 400 to 470 MHz (covers 70cm Ham and FRS/GMRS)
UHF3 "F4" - 470 to 520 MHz (transmitter disabled, PTT = long beep and "DIS")

Does NOT cover VHF-AM Aircraft band. Doesn't receive AM signals anyway.

  1. TG-UV2 has a hidden option "lock/unlock". I discovered it when one day I tried to enter the frequency 438.000MHz and...there was no such possibility :). I didn't know why but my TG-UV2 was locked and could only operate up to 432.000MHz.
    This is solution:
    1. turn OFF trx
    2. press and hold MON+PTT
    3. turn ON
    4. waith about 3 sec for "beep"
    5. now you can release PTT+MON
    now the trx is locked, if you repeat this procedure once more it will be unlocked.

  3. Unlocked:
    F0: 88.000-108.000MHz
    F1: 136.000-173.995MHz
    F2: 350.000-389.995MHz
    F3: 400.000-469.995MHz
    F4: 470.000-519.995MHz

    Locked:
    F0: 88.000-108.000MHz
    F1: 144.000-146.000MHz
    F2: 430.000-432.000MHz

    1. It's possible to unlock the 350.000-389.000 for transmitting. Just follow the procedure bellow.

      1 - turn the radio off;
      2 - lkeep the "band" buttom pressed";
      3 - turn the radio on while you keep the "band" key pressed. You should see the following on the screed: "*******";
      4 - type 350390. Now your 350.000-389.000 is unlocked for transmission!

      To lock it again just follow the same procedure.

  4. My radio acts weird when locked. It's not acting as if the bands or frequencies are locked down the same way that you described. But it works a lot better in the normal 'unlocked' mode.

    I would describe your tip as good advice to escape the horrible 'locked' mode.

    Thanks very much.

  6. Hi Terry. I've not seen anything about unlocking the 470MHz+ range for transmit. Keep us posted if you ever find any info.

    oh well to un lock it.. turn off radio.. hold down band.. turn on wait for ****** to appear and type 350390.. and bingo.. tx is enabled :)

  10. Suggestion, if you want to listen in to government frequencies without the worry of accidental transmission; Program the RX freq with the desired listen in freq and program the TX fq to a MURS or Itineret frequency based on the band. 462.6750 for UHF and 151.6000 for VHF. From what I know, correct me if I am wrong, these two frequencies are for general public use and does not require you to register with the FCC for a license. So if you accidently key up, you will not transmit on restricted frequencies. Erik WX9SWX

  11. Hey mate, your blog is very very helpful for the new user of Quansheng TG-UV2 I believe :)

    I studied almost everything about TV-UV2 from the manual, it's pretty easy to understand, and your blog just make it more easier.

    Thanks!

  12. @ Michel, press and hold the "F" key until the key symbol goes away (about 1 to 2 seconds).

    Even if you could, you would fry your handheld. Look at the bottom for its range. You would need another antenna before you attempted it.

  14. how can I scan UHF channels .. on channel mode the radio skips UHF channels ... thanks

  15. Santi - make sure it's in MR mode using the MR/VFO button. Then press F, and then press UP arrow. It should start scanning (slowly) through the programmed memory channels. It shouldn't be skipping any channels.

    See this post for channel lock-out procedure:

  16. SO has any one figured out how to unlock the 480-520MHz range to transmit so I can use it for civil air patrol/defence? I had a radio shack htx-100 and I would give anything for another one.
