Frequency entry shortcut (provided the STEP is correct)

mnix1 [DealExtreme forum participant] suggests:
You will also find keying the first 6 digits of the frequency will get the radio to jump to the nearest on-channel frequency - so to get 161.28750 you key 161.287 and the radio will figure out the rest.

The above particular example works assuming that the frequency STEP [F+0+1] is set [UP/DN, and then MR to store] to 12.5 kHz.

But in general terms, it's a good suggestion....provided you keep the STEP size in mind.

  1. awesome tip - thanks!

I found this blog during the time between my order of the radio and receiving it ... and I'm so glad I found your info!

This little gem of a radio has been on patrols with the Los Angeles Guardian Angels, and it has been doing a great job.

I really appreciate all these insights you provide - thank you!

  2. I'm glad that the blog is useful.

Are the Guardian Angels using a duly licensed frequency? Also, should they be using FCC Type Approved equipment?

Should we hide your comment? ;-)

  3. Maybe I need to learn a bit more, but I'm confused by that one ... "licensed frequency" isn't making sense to me.

We have some licensed individuals, with FCC registered call signs (I believe some have gone beyond initial Technician level as well). Is that what you mean?

I would hate to think that, in a genuine effort to be helpful that anyone is causing more trouble.

And, please help clarify the other note about FCC Approved equipment, as it relates to this radio, if possible. My understanding is that a licensed HAM operator is allowed to operate quite freely within the power allowance of this radio, within the frequency bands it allows. Again, I look forward to any and all corrections and advice.

    Thank you

There are some VERY helpful people on here, so I hope they'll straighten out my misunderstanding soon. thanks in advance!

  4. Okay, if they're licensed Ham (Amateur) radio operators, then everything is almost certainly okay. They're self-policing and are pretty good at staying within the rules.

It wasn't clear from the first post that the Guardian Angels were Hams in this case.

  6. Just started with my TG-UV2 transiver and not very good at it. How do you enter the frequencies and match them with the channels ? Also how do you enter the WX3 162.475 weather channel ?

  7. Now it's even worst. This morning I succeeded to enter a weather frequency (162.475) which is the local Mont-Tremblant weather station but couldn’t listen because there was no sound. I could see the signal indicator moving from 7 to 10 and the indicator lamp on top flashing yellow. After trying different manoeuvres I found that by pressing the (MON) button I could hear the sound but releasing it cut’s it off again. Worst is, now I can’t even try anything cause whatever button I push I always get a dual beep. The only button not giving a dual beep is (MAIN) for the arrows. A lot of reviewers claim it’s easier to program using the QuanSheng software with a cable. The only place I can see to plug the cable is either in place of the antenna or speaker/mic? Would you have the part number of that cable? Could you also tell me what the steps to enter frequencies and matching channels are?
HELP would certainly be appreciated. It’s urgently needed. Michel

  9. Double check the squelch setting. See page 25 in manual. F + MON and then UP or DOWN. Adjust it as low as possible, but just enough to squelch the noise.

  11. Hey . . . Eureka . . . I had the problem too and don’t ask me exactly what I did but all of a sudden I noticed a (WX) appearing on the screen that wasn't there before! Looked in the manual (page 8) for description but a comment on one of the forum explained:
Apparently pressing the "F" and then the "light" button on the side placed the radio into WX mode. When in this mode no other commands are possible. This is documented in the manual (p.24). In any event pressing "F" and the light button releases the radio. Hope this helps others[/i][/i][/i]

Thanks to all that have tried to help
